|Karen, I used Adobe Photoshop CS2 to do this.|
I duplicated the background layer, selected Channel mixer, used red at 100% and selected monochrome to make it B&W.
I then made a layer mask and painted with a paintbrush, color black, to select the lights back to color. It did help with the overexposure off the porch, to do that I changed the blending mode to multiply and it darkened it, then painted the rest of the scene with white to remove the darkness everywhere but off the porch.
This picture is awesome in color, I just thought it made a great canidate for B&W.
Slight crop to remove the white that you missed when you rotated it.
