Joyful Easter to those who celebrate it... and happy time to everyone!
What you see are painted boiled eggs traditionally made for Easter little basket filled with food, brought to church on Holy Saturday. There, the priests sprinkle holy water on the baskets, usually containing eggs, sausages, ham, salt, piece of cake, tiny sugar lambs and other sorts of food, decorated with tiny twigs of blueberry (if I translated the name of the plant correctly...).
Egg is considered to be an ancient symbol of life.
Painted eggs may have different names depending on the region and decorating method. I call them "pisanki", singular "pisanka".
===
Actually, they should be beautifully decorated with various ornaments, but I was lazy.
I arranged them on the table, in the light falling from the kitchen window.
I posted this shot on TE a year ago, but it was moderated for being "studio-like". All the green faces gone, what a waste.
My kitchen, studio-like! Good to know ;) |
