I've heard about it but I had no idea this was what it looks like. We spotted it on the shore and threw it back in the water. My friend had accidentally stepped on it. At first I thought it was a balloon!
Yesterday was a holiday which originally was named after a "Portuguese man o'poetry": Camőes.

Scientific classification
Kingdom: Animalia

Class: Hydrozoa
Order: Siphonophora
Family: Physaliidae
Genus: Physalia
Species: P. physalis
Binomial name
Physalia physalis
(Linnaeus, 1758)
The Atlantic Portuguese man o' war (Physalia physalis), also known as the Man-of-War, blue bubble, or floating terror, is a marine hydrozoan of the family Physaliidae found in the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Its venomous tentacles can deliver a painful (and sometimes fatal) sting. Despite its outward appearance, the Portuguese man o' war is not a jellyfish but a siphonophore, which is distinguished from jellyfish in that it is not a single multicellular organism, but a colonial organism made up of specialized minute individual organisms called zooids.[1] These zooids are attached to one another and physiologically integrated to the extent that they cannot survive independently and function as if they were an individual organism.

The Indo-Pacific Portuguese Man-of-War (Physalia utriculus), or blue bottle, is a related very similar-looking species found throughout the Indian and Pacific oceans.
